Creating From The Center – A Mandala Creation Workshop
September 27, 2018 @ 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm$65
This Workshop Is For Insight, Wholeness and Self-Expression
The mandala is a symmetrical design that has historically appeared in architecture, rituals and art forms around the world. In this workshop participants will learn how to design individual mandalas as a form of self-expression and personal insight. The mandala has historically appeared in constructions, rituals and art forms around the world. For centuries, people of all cultures and religions have felt drawn to the wholeness that is expressed through the symmetry and patterns of the mandala.
In Eastern tradition, the mandala is essentially a vehicle for concentrating the mind so that it may pass beyond its usual fetters. The Tibetan Mandala has achieved its fullest and most complex development both as an artistic form and as a meditative ritual.
Western tradition holds similar principles and uses of the mandala. The process of the Navaho sand painting offers many parallels to the Tibetan mandala ritual; both are, by nature, a complete meditation with the mind in right perspective.
A mandala workshop encourages use of the mandala in whatever way is meaningful at the time it is being created. It can be a tangible expression of an emotion, thought or aspiration, a form of meditation, or simply an intuitive, creative exercise. Creating the mandala with others can be a powerful wellness practice and is an art technique that’s accessible to everyone. During the workshop you’ll be guided as much or as little as you choose.
In a light-hearted, atmosphere participants will learn about design, art materials and techniques and then see what unfolds within the symmetry of the mandala. When creating a personal mandala, full attention is placed on the experience, in the present moment. A completed mandala can be a meditation for self-reflection. Prior art experience is not necessary, but an open mind is always helpful.
The cost of the class includes all materials.
